Review: 2/5
Spice 1.5/5
Now three books in, I have realized the author is all about the realistic happily ever after's. She leaves the reader happy with how it ends but also makes it seem like their story isn’t over. Within the epilogue.
This book's main character Emma, is pregnant with a quick wedding as the epilogue. I don’t know why that epilogue made me have some revelations about this author's writing style.
I liked this novel, but it was my least favorite, I did have high hopes for it too. I have always loved Irish romances, it’s been a life goal to explore all of the United Kingdom, England, Ireland, and Scotland.
Reading near St. Patrick's Day should have gotten me more in the spirit of the novel. I didn’t connect with Emma, the FMC. She seemed a little lost and winey. Throughout the book, she was trying to grow out of her shell. She is the "unluckiest" person, she is defined is Murphy's law, if should happen it would happen to her. She can't catch a break, the down-her luck since birth is kind of overdone, reminds me of a Disney/ Hallmark storyline.
After a terrible apartment-ruining pipe burst and loss of job, she decided to go on a vacation to change her luck. Got to Ireland and Find yourself a 4-leaf clover. And while bent over looking for one, she runs into Connor, who gives her his. Thus the Luck transfer.
In walks Connor, the over-lucky MMA fighter. What should luck have anything to do with MMA? At the beginning of the book he was on a very strict daily schedule, he worked out and practiced all day every day. Then he runs into Emma, and all is twisted, he has to find her to get his luck back. Halfway through he decides to let her keep the luck because he’s fallen for her. Yeah very Hallmark-type romance, all this happens within a week by the way. Did I like it, sure, would I read it again, probably not.
Tropes:
Irish luck, destination, dream trip, Luck of the Irish, He falls first, her checklist, vacation romance, he pushes her out of her comfort zone, she meets his family, lucky in love, hallmark next movie (it would work). MMA fighter, Curse or Luck? tattooed man,
Amazon Blurb:
Emma Johnson has the worst luck. No really, she does. Murphy’s Law never applied to anyone better. If something can go wrong, it usually does. Thankfully she’s figured out a way to deal with her bad luck curse, by becoming a risk assessment analyst. Until she gets blindsided by her boss who decides AI is cheaper than her. Not only that but her apartment floods and it pushes her to the end of her rope. At the insistence of her best friend Jules, she decides to cross the sea to find the luck of the Irish, hoping a four-leaf clover can counteract her curse.
Conor O’Shea is one of the best MMA fighters in Ireland and if you ask him probably the world. He never loses and luck always seems to be on his side, except when it comes to dating. The women he attracts aren’t the kind to take home to Mum or Nan. His life is all about training so cutting out time to find a girl who’s more interested in him than his money or celebrity is tough to do.
One night at a pub and a handful of salt later Emma’s bad luck brings her face to face with the muscled fighter who finds her endearing and thinks she’s overexaggerating the power of luck. That is until his luck fails him days before a big fight.
Can he help her find her own good luck and get his back in the process? Or will their growing attraction to each other create more problems than their luck can handle?
