Her Favorite Jack o Lantern By Rebecca Rennick

Review: 3.5/ 5

Spice 2.8/5

This book relates to me so much, I am the Halloween-obsessed girl in my family. They don’t understand the obsession or me. When Sally and her family had a strain, my heart connected so deeply that I fell in love with the story. Now don’t get me wrong this story is great, there is smut, a good amount. Both Sally and Jack shouldn’t work, a Halloween girly and an ex-army gym rat. They are both open-minded, that is their secret. Well, that and the fact that Sally has been crushing on Jack since high school, and they live next to each other.

I honestly wish I had the guts Sally has, she’s working hard to be happy while not having many people to call hers. Jack comes around and pushes her boundaries and she’s all the happier for it. She had to deal with the high school mean girl coming back into the picture because of Jack.

Jack wins the hearts of the readers when he openly picks Sally (more than once) in front of his family, ex, and the town gossip. Jack doesn’t know what to do with himself now that he’s out of the military, and clings to Sally as she is her most authentic self.

Both have issues at the beginning, but together they push each other’s comforts and overcome the internal tumoral. Without Jack, Sally would just keep going on as the social outcast, and Jack would be living his life for someone else.

They even dress up as Jack and Sally from Nightmare Before Christmas!

Tropes:

Opposite attract, Halloween themes, nightmare before Christmas vibe, close corners (neighbors), black sheep of the town, an all-star boy comes home, town weirdo and golden boy fall in love, sex in pumpkin patch, window watching/ voyeurism

Amazon:

Jack Campbell has just returned to his hometown after eight years away in the army, much to his family’s delight, to rent the only place available in town. He quickly appreciates his luck when he meets his new lavender-eyed neighbor.Sally Smithson is the weirdo among the townsfolk, with her black house and hearse to match. Not many in the small New Hampshire town appreciate her sense of style. It doesn't matter either way to her. She has her two best friends, her cats, and her interior design business, which is all she needs . . .Until a rather dashing familiarly handsome man moves in next door—her high school crush, Jack—who finds her too enticing to ignore. She's sweet and loves her baked goods but is different from the rest of the country club attending town. And he adores it. She intrigues, captivates, and arouses him. He can't seem to stay away from her. So, when the opportunity to spend more time with her presents itself, he takes it.When their relationship turns more than friendly, Jack is all in, but Sally is worried they won’t fit together. It takes the support of her friends, old and new, to learn how to move beyond the gossip, to accept the affection of a man she thought she could never have.
