Halloween Boys series by Kat Blackthorne
Ghost 3.5/5
Opened my eyes to the truly protective, evil, and twisted souls of male leads.
1st book in the series.
Forced proximity, and being stalked by a demonic/abusive stepfather, Blythe finds her way to Ash Grove. Ash Grove was a typical small town, or so we thought. She goes to a therapist in order to start dealing with her past. There she meets Dr. Cove aka Ghost. A demon in his own right, who has murder on the brain. The only thing the Halloween Boys are great at is Murder and protecting their town.
Ghosts can taste emotion.
Favorite Scenes:
- Ghost killing her stepfather
- Forked tongue
- Archdemon shifting mid…
Dragon 3/ 5
Now that the curse on Ash Grove is lifted, Blythe and the Halloween Boys can go into the outside world. Dragon can find his blood family. Onyx does something they all thought about, kidnaps Blythe from the others, and there is even a Pirate Battle.
Once Onyx aka Dragon meets his father, Vampire King, he’s not sure that’s what he was really looking for. The Vampire King is obsessed with finding Onyx’s long-lost mother, to the point of derangement on his part and not taking care of his subjects and kingdom as a whole. Onyx gets his time to be with Blythe. Learns about his lineage, Prince of Vampire Kingdom. And how he can help, all the while learning what it means to be a Prince and a Vampire, and longs to know about his mother and Dragon lineage. Onyx is not only an emotional/ dream altering Vampire he can now fully shift into his Dragon Form
Favorite Scenes:
- Onyx's first taste of Blythe
- Learning what Essence was in the vampire kingdom
- Blood magick (ending)
Wolf 3/ 5
The trio is finally together in many ways, but the Devil is still not officially with the group. Wolf gets his turn to fully claim Blythe. Back in Ash Grove, much has changed including Wolf’s home Fenrir. Most of the pack is gone, leaving the youth behind to defend the lands, they are barely hanging on. Wolf becomes the Alpha or Sol, to help the pack, while the Halloween boys and Blythe again this will be their home. Help was needed there, so they investigated what was really going on with Ash Grove.
Wolf has to learn to be the Sol aka Alpha he needs to be for his pack, and the Halloween Boys family. He stresses Blythe and if he can trust his other half to care/ protect her even from himself. Even gets chained up for it (though this scene seemed a little rush).
Favorite scenes:
- Little Red Riding Hood
- Flower Crown
- Reunited with the main 3 man
Devil 2/5
Concluding man and book of the series.
Hard Core Hades and Persephone vibes, though Blythe as Persephone who is the goddess of Spring is kind of a twist since Blythe is a Reaper/ Death Personified. Not really a fan of Devil character, perfect example, if you love someone don’t force anything. He could have been with her in book one. This entire series would be different if he would have jumped on the group band wagon from the start, no instead we spend a book of him pushing her limits, making her choose him over EVERYTHING! Sure, it does end nicely and wrapped up in as close to HEA as possible for these characters, but not a fan.
I don’t like him, so it makes me since I wouldn’t like his book. We read throughout the entire series Devil poking his head into the timeline to check in and make sure we readers didn’t forget him, I guess I should have seen a bit more of this book foreshadowing as she is death personified, just I don’t know I wanted to just strangle him. If you want the girl, deal with her other man. You are the replaceable person. That’s a tiny part of what I like about why choose/ Omeagverse. Every person gets their choices laid out, if your in be in, if you don’t think it will work, than be out, no half way in. And Devil kept thinking he would get her all to himself.
Series as a whole
Blythe grows from a Scared abused victim to an empowered Reaper of Death, I love how while the men are all extremely protective and fight many battles for/with her, she ends up on top and the most powerful. She has to deal with pain and fear while falling in love with all four of her men.
The Author keeps the romance progression as in Blythe gains fails/ attachment to another man while being romanced by the Lead male of the book. In book #1, Ghost romances her and wins her heart first, while Onyx has breakfast dates with her. Then in Dragon, Wolf tries to understand her deeper while in Vampire Land and gets his first taste based on trust. Then in Wolf, Devil himself steals moments with her that she must keep a secret from the others. Give us the readers a timeline of sorts on who will be gaining attention in the next book. With the Devil himself floating in between the books to show he’s still there.
Each book had some series fairy tale Spin-Off vibes
- Ghost: Phantom of the Oprea vibes -stalking, hiding, possessiveness
- Dragon: Sleepy Beauty- the sleep sex and the Princess in the tower and protected by the Dragon
- Wolf: A Literal Little Red Riding Hood scene
- Devil: Hades and Persephone vibes- she’s in my domain, so she’s mine. She has to stay with me forever and never go back to them.
